After one workout using the TRX, I knew that this piece of equipment was going to be one of those revolutions in our industry as powerful as the physioball. Forget about how much bang you get for your buck with this piece of equipment, I am most impressed with the ability we now have to immediately target the weakest links in the anterior and posterior kinetic chain. Correcting hyperlordosis by strengthening the lower abdominals and stabilizing the trunk through multiplaner movements results in the strongest pillar and deepest core strength you will ever experience. We have incorporated this modality into each circuit for our NFL Combine Prep program and are already impressed with the results after only two weeks of use.

In order to build speed and agility in an athlete we must first consider the mobility and stability of the kinetic chain on which we are placing the demand. It is critical that each athlete masters the foundation of creating a stable ankle, knee and hip to protect the athlete from injury when performing movements at a high velosity. We must be certain that these foundational techniques are tested and movement patterns are developed prior to getting explosive and sport specific. Too many times injury results to those who do not fully grasp these fundamentals. The Function Movement Screen is an excellet place to start with a full movement evaluation and can be found here http://www.performbetter.com/detail.aspx_Q_ID_E_4493_A_CategoryID_E_388. Gray Cook does an excellent job of giving the user a tool to identify compensations in movement patterns as well as asymmetries between the right and left side. Once these issues are identified, the patterns can be corrected and the athlete can begin to move more efficiently… the way the body was designed to move.

This is the foundation. This is what we build the rest of our house on. We must fight for a solid foundation as we develop explosiveness which will virtually eradicate non contact injuries when its game time!

More to come…

After only 7 days from the Rutgers Pro Day, Eric Foster comes back with a vengence. He has been dilligently working on his recovery after being side tracked with a minor hamstring pull during the 40 only one week before. It truly shows his comittment and dedication to the sport which he has spent his entire life developing. He ran his short shuttle, three cone, and completed his positional drills. The only drill he will wait until he is fully recovered for will be the 40 yard dash. The teams that have a strong interest in him will be out to visit mid April to view this specimen. That gives us until then to get him completely cleaned up and back to running full speed. It is nothing short of miraculous what was witnessed today. If it only took one week to get him back on his feet for this Pro Day… just think of what another two weeks will do for him. Looking forward to seeing his results.

Eric Foster is one of the most competitive and determined athletes I’ve ever had the privilege of working with. Watching him dominate at his Pro Day was extremely exciting…up until the 40 that is. At about fifteen yards into it, he felt a little tweak in his hamstring and decided to abort his mission. One of the most difficult things to do as a competitive athlete is to turn off your ego and turn on your brain, especially in a game situation with as much hype as the Rutgers Pro Day. There were 30 scouts from 20 different NFL teams in attendance just to make our decision that much more difficult.

Not participating in the second 40, short shuttle, three cone, or 60 yd. shuttle was 100% a pure business decision. It was not worth risking further injury which could have been detrimental to his expected performance at scheduled private NFL visits, especially during a time that is as critical as the draft. Eric has proven his ability throughout his entire career and was ready to show the world how his speed strength and power have all increased even with the added 20 lbs of lean muscle mass he has put on since min January training at TEST Sports Clubs. He was well on his way to doing so until he was slightly side tracked by this minor pull.

Eric also has another opportunity at a Pro Day hosted by TEST Sports Clubs which will be held at Good Sports on Thursday April 3rd. I have personally committed to working with Eric everyday 1 on 1 until that time to clean up his movements and address the cause…not the symptom of his hamstring dominance. Being an Exercise Science major and two time Rutgers Swimming and Diving team captain in 95 & 96, I felt a personal responsibility to help my fellow two time Rutgers Football team captain in 07 & 08. With his determination and will to train, I feel extremely confident that he will be in good shape for this second Pro Day. The fact that it only allows us seven days for him to repair and re-educate his movement patterns is setting the stage for a HUGH success story to prove that he has what it takes to rise from adversity and come out on top. If anyone can do it, he can. This guy has a heart as big as the Rutgers Stadium and leaves his blood, sweat and tears on the field. HE WILL BE BACK. This is going to be a story people are going to talk about throughout the rest of his NFL career.

Kevin Dunn is a Rutgers University alumnus and holds a BS in Exercise Science & Psychology. As a captain and MVP of RU’s Diving Team, he was awarded Atlantic 10’s Diver of the Year in the 1995. You may have even seen him performing in Great Adventure’s High Diving Shows over the summers. He holds a number of certifications from nationally accredited commissions such as AFAA, ACE, NSCA, Reebok University, The Arthritis Foundation (PACE), and more! He has worked in situations from hospital based physical therapy settings to athletic training for intercollegiate athletics. He has generated workouts for the world renowned Rockettes!

Based out of Bedminster and Martinsville, Kevin spear headed the training and education as TEST moved into its new facility in Martinsville. He has an incredible eye for detail whether it involves movement training, construction management, or breaking down facility operations. Kevin’s desire is to create a family based destination where all of your health & fitness, and sports related needs can be exceeded under one seemlessly integrated state of the art, service oriented home away from home.
